Rogue Warrior: Game review

Submitted on 2009/12/26 No Comment

Bethesda first planned for Rogue Warrior to be a game of tactics, with shooters based on squads and a full-packed robust multiplayer suite which promises a hundred of arbitrary map configurations. However, what is shipped is entirely a different thing – it turned out to be stripped down, straight up with a shooter substituting continuous obscene and gruesome killer moves which makes it insufficient to produce neither uniqueness nor excitement. The game just plainly qualifies as dumb in its final edition.

Rogue Warrior

You probably can’t help but laugh when you hear expletives gushing as often as your bullet hits – via Mickey Rourke’s enthusiastic voice; probably the only thing memorable throughout the dull game. In the end, when credits flash, the only impression that the Rogue Warrior will leave you is that he is an ill-mannered sociopath who just blabbers to his enemies before taking a stab on their heads.

It won’t take too long when you reach the finish as Rogue Warrior’s single play campaign gets timed out after two hours of unique gameplay which can be extended depending on disappointing mishaps through your game.

In every level in the game, whether it is outdoor or indoor, it is ultimately designed similar to a linear maze along with other items which will hinder you from finding anything on the path you want to explore.

Avid gamers will be able to easily spot that the game lacks real stealth mechanics even if the game tries to cover it with basic cover system and a radar mini-map. Stabbing your enemy continuously which are considered one-button kill moves makes it less difficult to shift through unravelled stages. However the A.I. enemy is a bit inconsistent as he might probably know of your presence there.

Except for the drab level layouts, stealth mechanics and routine missions, everything seems to be either dated and some parts of Rogue Warrior seem to be raw. The precision in aiming is very poor and setting plays result to no good. Most of the campaign is dominated by stiff and boring firefights which can be considered a notable concern.

At the standard difficulty settings, death becomes fluid as a quick demise is spelt even if you stick your head out at the most unfortunate times. Online multiplayer setting is as dull and inconsiderate as the entirety of the game even though the eight-player deathmatch or team deathmatch battles are proven to be playable – but unproductive servers might limit you to lesser opponents at a time.

The problem of the game is its mediocrity as compared to say for example, a complete package game like Modern Warfare 2 – it can easily be shipped out in a few weeks and get piled over by competition.
